Ladida Theatre Company (A Little History Lesson)

A long time ago, a couple of kids (Us) decided to join a Youth Theatre, In our early teens doing plays and rehearsing was a sh*t load of fun, As we got older, our passion for Stage, Lights, Acting, Writing and Directing became stronger, most of us went on to continue studying through College,
Now I know what you're thinking...it was all parties, drunken nights and no sleep....well you're right but no matter how much alcohol was poured down our talented pipes, The passion was still stronger than ever,
So as People came and went, some got older, some pursued television, they were all about the cameras, lights and action, but the few that stayed, were looking for the raw feeling that only live theatre can offer,(being so close to an audience member that you know they're wearing Gucci for Women, You can't get that anywhere else but stage!) So we got our brains together (whatever was left from our College years) and decided that the only way to get work was to create our own,
We had a director a couple of actors and a handful of writers, all the while thinking we wouldn't make the best stew! How about a play instead?
So before we got down to writing, We thought a brand new company name would give us the kick up the bum we so desperately needed, we were so used to someone else doing the boring work, applications and what not, we were so young it all just flew over our heads, So we learnt to D.I.O (Do It Ourselves) So we googled, we dictionary'd, we theasuarus'd (realising those 2 are not unalike!) We even anagram'd, which in the end it worked out for the best, LADIDA THEATRE COMPANY was born! Proud parents as we were, we couldn't sit around doting and being googly eyed,
We needed to get to work! And do it fast!
As Festivals were popping up left, right and centre they were not gonna sit around waiting for us to get the finger out! So only a couple of months old we're taking out first steps (advanced I know!!)to making this company really work, everyone is chipping in and the late night feeds are getting less and less, Ideas are popping up and characters that have been inside the head are finally on paper, Excitement as each thing seems to be coming together nicely. Touring around a Dublin Prison, and interviewing prisoners probably wouldn't appeal to everyone! But that's what we're getting down and dirty with. Exploring the harsh, cold truth that hides behind our Cities Prison System. Airing dirty laundry and really getting stuck in!

Ladida Theatre Company are a group of Young, Edgy, Risk-taking theatre creators from Ballymun,
The Regeneration has raised issues that are very close to our Community and we are going to use these to break the mould, smash stereotypical views, push Boundaries, Buttons and over all Perceptions for Us, the Audience and You!

Follow us for the ride we're sure you've never seen in Disneyland,
It's not for the faint hearted, those people who get sick on the bumper cars need not apply ;)
If our show was an opera, Pavarotti would be the dogs b*ll*x, and Madame Butterfly certainly would not approve!
